Travel photographer Craig Lou shared his recent trip to Mexico City. The dynamic capital of Mexico offers a combination of everything a traveler could dream of. Mexico City has a rich history and is home to world-renowned museums, beautiful architecture, and some of the best food on the planet.
Just outside of Mexico City lies Teotihuacan, the “City of the Gods,” home to two of the most iconic structures in Mesoamerican history—the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon. Walking through this ancient city feels like traveling back to a time when it was a bustling hub of culture and innovation.
The Pyramids at a Glance:
• Pyramid of the Sun: Standing at 216 feet (66 meters) tall, it’s the THIRD-LARGEST pyramid in the world and as wide as 13 Olympic swimming pools. Built around 200 CE, it was a sacred site for worship and rituals.
• Pyramid of the Moon: Slightly smaller but equally impressive, it offers breathtaking views of the entire site from the top. It was used for ceremonies and sacrifices dedicated to the moon goddess.
• Avenue of the Dead: This grand boulevard connects the two pyramids, surrounded by ancient ruins, plazas, and murals.
There are countless things to do in and around the city. The city is at an altitude of over 7,000 feet so most people wear jeans year-round. The sky's the limit here!
Want to get out of the city and into nature? Just an hour outside the city you can go horseback riding! Craig rode a horse 2 hours to fly his drone and get some cool overhead shots.
