    Full Bloom In Tokyo

Spring is definitely one of the best times to visit Tokyo, especially if you want to experience cherry blossoms (sakura) in full bloom. The weather is mild, and the scenery is breathtaking, with pink blossoms lining streets, parks, and temples.

Cherry blossom season, known as "sakura," is a highly anticipated event in Japan, symbolizing the arrival of spring. This year, the blooming period varies across regions, generally starting in late March and continuing through April. Here are the best places to see them in Tokyo.

Shinjuku Gyoen (新宿御苑) – Best Overall

    • Variety of cherry blossom species, which means an extended bloom period.
    • Perfect for a peaceful stroll or picnic (but alcohol is not allowed).
    • Best time: Late March to early April.

Ueno Park (上野恩賜公園) – Lively Hanami Spot

    • Over 1,000 cherry trees along the park’s pathways.
    • Classic Hanami party atmosphere—great for groups!
    • Best time: Late March to early April.

Meguro River (目黒川) – Best for a Sakura Walk

    • Beautiful sakura reflections on the water—great for photography.
    • Street food stalls and trendy cafes nearby.
    • Best time: Late March to early April.

    Inokashira Park (井の頭公園) – Laid-back & Local

    • Rent a swan boat and paddle through the sakura reflections.
    • More relaxed, local hanami vibe.
    • Best time: Late March to early April.

      For The Foodie

Tokyo holds the title for the most Michelin-starred restaurants in the world, boasting an impressive 194. Kyoto follows as the third most Michelin-starred city with 103, while Osaka ranks fourth with 95. But beyond these fine dining spots, Tokyo offers an incredible culinary experience at all price points. Whether it’s a humble bowl of ramen, an energetic izakaya, or even an unexpected yet outstanding slice of pizza, the Japanese approaches food with unmatched passion and precision.

      Tokyo: Tsukiji Outer Market
Unlike the old days, you don’t have to arrive at dawn—unless you’re trying to beat the crowds for the most famous sushi spots. But if you go mid-morning or even early afternoon, you can still enjoy plenty of fresh seafood and street food without worrying about missing out.

      • Fresh seafood: Sushi, sashimi, grilled seafood skewers, and more.
      • Street food: Tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet), uni (sea urchin), wagyu beef skewers, and onigiri.
      • Traditional food shops: Selling Japanese kitchenware, dried seafood, tea, and knives.

Our favorite restaurant on our last trip to Tokyo was Jomon in Shibuya: Jomon is an amazing izakaya-style yakitori and kushiyaki spot, known for its lively atmosphere, charcoal-grilled skewers, and great selection of sake. Reserve here: https://teyandei.com/

      Thrifting and Antiquing

Tokyo is a haven for thrift enthusiasts, with numerous neighborhoods offering diverse secondhand shopping experiences. We recommend taking the subway to one of these neighborhoods and just walking around taking it all in. Here are some top destinations to explore:

      • Shimokitazawa: Renowned for its bohemian atmosphere, this area is lined with vintage clothing stores, record shops, and cozy cafes. Tip: New York Joe Exchange has a 50% off sale on the first Sunday of the month.

      • Koenji: Known for its array of thrift shops, Koenji offers a mix of affordable vintage clothing and unique accessories.

      • Harajuku: Beyond its trendy fashion scene, Harajuku houses several thrift stores offering both high-end and casual vintage items.
