You won't find many cities with a more authentic history and culture than Barcelona. Known for it's beautiful architecture, scenic Mediterranean beaches, and vibrant nightlife, Barcelona ranks among the very best cities to visit in Europe.
In fact, there is so much to do here that it can be overwhelming to the traveler who has not done enough research. To remedy this we've put together a list of some of the top tourist attractions, tips for getting around the city, and general best practices.
1. Explore the Gothic Quarter
Barcelona's Gothic Quarter is actually the oldest part of the city. With that comes a rich history that spans back centuries. Here you can see architecture such as cathedrals, a medieval palace, and even walls from Roman times! It's a great area to walk around with lots of shops, cafes, and things to do. Don't skip out on this iconic part of the city.
2. Visit the Pablo Picasso Museum
The Pablo Picasso Museum (Museu Picasso Barcelona) is a mandatory stop for anyone interested in the art or life of Pablo Picasso. The museum houses an impressive collection of thousands of the artist's sketches, drawings, and paintings. It's a great way to take a look into his formative years and see firsthand the influences Barcelona had on his art.
3. Sagrada Familia
The Sagrada Familia is one of the famous architect Antoni Gaudi's masterpieces. Construction began in 1882 and it still isn't finished, making it the largest unfinished Catholic church in the world! Even though it isn't finished it is still undeniably beautiful. The Sagrada Familia is a UNESCO World Heritage site and an important cultural landmark in Barcelona.
4. La Rambla
La Rambla is a perfect area to explore when you first arrive to Barcelona. The pedestrian boulevard passes famous historical landmarks, tapas bars, and kiosks. Expect an entertaining walk, as Las Ramblas is lined by a multitude of human statues and other street performers. The famous street runs from the water into the heart of the Gothic Quarter.
5. La Boqueria Market
Easily accessible from La Rambla, Mercat de la Boqueria is one of the most popular markets in all of Barcelona. This traditional market is home to hundreds of stalls selling everything from cold cuts and meats to drinks and sweets. The market has been around since the 13th century, and anything that's withstood the test of time for that long has to be worth a visit! The market can also be reached via Barcelona's metro.
1. When is the best time to visit Barcelona?
The best time to visit Barcelona is between May and June when the weather is warm but not too hot. Spain can really heat up during the Summer, but being on the coast benefits Barcelona. Keep in mind, May - September is high season so you will encounter the most tourists then.
2. How can I get around Barcelona?
Barcelona offers a very robust transportation system that allows tourists to navigate the city with ease. One of the best options is the metro, which gets you right in front of or within walking distance of the major tourist destinations. You can also take the hop-on hop-off tourist bus, which will take you right to some of the city's most iconic landmarks.
3. Is Barcelona safe?
Yes, Barcelona is generally a safe city to visit. Serious crimes among tourists and travelers are rare. Unfortunately, pickpocketing has become common to the point where Barcelona has been labeled "the pickpocketing capital of Europe." Be wary in crowded areas and while taking public transportation.
Definitely pack your Aviator Best Travel Jeans for this trip! The hidden zipper pockets will help you navigate crowded areas with confidence.
4. What should I wear in Barcelona?
If you are visiting during the warmer months, definitely pack for hot weather. Men will get a lot of use from Aviator Jeans but should definitely bring shorts, which are actually gaining popularity in Europe so you won't stand out as much as you would have years ago. Consider trying out the Non-Stop Travel Short 3.0 to save space if you're planning on going to the beach as well.
Women should pack one pair of indigo jeans as well as a pair of non denim pants. The Aviator Women's Jean Collection has many great options. Women should also consider packing a dress or skirt to blend in with the local style. The Chambray Dress is a great choice for day or night.
If you are planning on enjoying Barcelona's nightlife, pack clothes that are on the nicer side as well. You likely won't be turned away from most places, but it is a good idea to dress with a bit of style and comfort. It's also good practice to dress nice and respectful while visiting the city's cathedrals as well.
Our goal here at Aviator is to help you travel with confidence. We hope that this guide and our travel clothing have been helpful in planning for your next adventure. Safe travels!
]]>We’re starting off with one of our all-time favorite cities to visit during Summer - and pretty much any time of the year. Best known for its beautiful beaches and world famous zoo, San Diego isn’t just Ron Burgundy’s favorite city: It’s a popular destination for tourists around the world. You’ll find great restaurants and happening nightlife in the Gaslamp Quarter. For hiking, there’s the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. And make sure you set aside some time to explore Balboa Park.
If you have some extra time, drive up to Carlsbad for a day. It's a charming, laid-back beach town, and it's only 45 min from San Diego. Definitely a fun place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Winters in Chicago are long, dark and brutally cold. Nobody there takes Summer for granted. They live it up in the Summertime with tons of festivals, block parties, concerts and outdoor markets. As a visitor, you can’t help but feel just as excited as everyone else to be outside soaking up the sun.
Millennium Park is a must-see for first time visitors. And Chicago's two most famous museums - the Art Institute and Field Museum (natural history) - are both walking-distance from the park. You’ll also find plenty of walking/biking trails nearby along the lake. Venture up to the north side of Chicago later in the day for some of the city's best bars and restaurants.
Summer is the most popular time to visit Seattle, so you shouldn’t expect to have the whole city to yourself. October is also a great time (less busy, potentially more rainy) but we included Seattle on this list because it’s really just one of America’s coolest cities. And it was ranked by U.S. News as one of the best Foodie Cities in the county. So if you love seafood, look no further. And if you love Sushi, you might just be in Heaven. Seattle’s also known for its coffee and beer - two drinks that humans have been known to enjoy from time to time.
A small coastal resort town located on Mount Desert Island in Maine, Bar Harbor is a popular Summertime destination for travelers who love the great outdoors, because it’s only an hour away from Acadia National Park. Known for its spectacular views, Acadia is one of America’s most beautiful parks. But Bar Harbor has much to offer as well. There’s no shortage of charming shops and great restaurants (Lobster is a local specialty) so it’s no wonder the quaint costal town tops many lists of the best US cities to visit in Summertime.
Acadia National Park
Steamboat Springs is another popular destination for nature-lovers. Named after its famous hot springs, Steamboat usually sees the most tourists in the Wintertime because it’s so great for skiing and snowboarding. But the city has a lot to offer in the Summer months as well. For hiking, check out Fish Creek Falls or the Yampa River Core Trail. Other popular outdoor activities include fishing, zip-lining, tubing, and camping in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests. Riding the Steamboat Gondola is a must-do for first-time visitors. And there’s no shortage of places to eat and drink: downtown Steamboat has over 100 bars and restaurants.
Fish Creek Falls
U.S. News recently ranked the Outer Banks as the #1 best place for a family beach vacation in the country. So you know it’s busy in the Summertime. But don’t let that stop you from going. According to U.S. News, the “beaches are more populated during the summer months, but with so many destinations spread out along the barrier islands, you likely won’t experience unmanageable crowds.” If you love spending time by the ocean, the Outer Banks are for you. The beautiful beaches are great for swimming, sun-bathing and water sports like kayaking.
Tour the Wright Brothers National Memorial and learn more about the brothers’ first flight right where it happened. Another highlight (pun intended) is the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, which you can't miss because it’s the tallest traditional lighthouse in the country. You can make the climb for a small fee.
Here’s another coastal town worth visiting in the Summer. Santa Barbara’s smaller than some of the other cities on this list, but some people see that as a plus. It’s history is well-preserved, and the distinct Spanish architecture and red-tile clay roofs give Santa Barbara it's own unique aesthetic. The courthouse is a must-see. You'll get a full panoramic view of the entire city from its watchtower.
You'll also find plenty of outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and swimming. And the beaches are beautiful. But the best part of Santa Barbara might just be the plethora of great bars and restaurants. Locally produced wine and craft beer are always within an arm’s reach. You’ll find taprooms and tasting rooms all over the city - particularly in the Funk Zone. Wine-lovers with some extra time should visit Los Olivos or the Rideau Vineyard in Solvang (each are 40 min away) for a glass of locally-produced wine in a beautiful setting.
Capital City Public Market
Boise is a beautiful city - especially in the Summer - and a fabulous place to visit. Situated along the Boise River, it has a bustling downtown with plenty to explore and a host of things to do outdoors. Get some fresh air and exercise on the Boise River Greenbelt, which hugs the water’s edge and cuts right through downtown. It features over 25 miles of trail for walking and biking. The 41-acre Kathryn Albertson Park is just a mile west of downtown, and according to their website, it hosts a “multitude of animal life” including owls, herons, salamanders, turtles, bullfrogs, raccoons, beavers, rabbits, foxes, and deer. The Idaho Botanical Garden is also a beautiful place is visit, and they offer free tours on select days during the Summer.
Professional traveler and radio host Annita Thomas recently reviewed her Aviator Jeans and Air Dry Merino Wool Hoodie on her blog. We loved what she had to say about being thoughtful and responsible with the clothing we wear for travel:
"Now that travel is gearing up again, it’s time to think about how we can make a difference in the way we travel. Let’s start with the clothes we choose."
We couldn't agree more!

Where did you last travel?
Grand Canyon
Highlights and/or must see locations:
I took two friends on a road trip. The Grand Canyon was a "must see." The view of the Canyon is different from each trail. At 75, I had to be picky about how far I hiked (getting back is uphill.)
If you're planning to hike down the South Rim, make sure to bring water with you.
Tips and tricks for fellow travelers:
Next time, I would stay in the on-site RV park and use the buses to go to each trail head and other attractions. Hang around the visitor center and take in the videos. I do wish I had taken one of the helicopter tours. They would be breathtaking.
Food/drink recommendations:
Bring your own. This isn't a culinary tour.
Which Aviator products did you wear and were they helpful?
The Medium Dark Indigos. And I won't say how many days I wore them between washing. Sooo comfortable.

Where did you last travel?:
Israel & Jordan
Highlights and/or must see locations:
The Holylands tour was a bucket list item for me. Petra, in Jordan, was my favorite part!
Tips and tricks for fellow travelers:
As the owner of a travel agency for more than 25 years, I probably travel much more than most other people. It is amazing how many people make expensive travel mistakes when booking their travel - without the benefit of a professional travel advisor.
Food/drink recommendations:
We stayed at mostly 5-star hotels and the food was primarily buffets. These were the largest and most varied buffets we have ever encountered. The food was delicious. We did begin to miss bacon after two weeks, but that was expected in this part of the world.
Many companies offer tours of the Holyland. They're a great way to see the region and visit locations like the Dead Sea, Jerusalem, Galilee, Bethlehem, Petra and more.
Which Aviator products did you wear and were they helpful?:
It was very hot (upper 90's to 100) but my three pairs of Aviator jeans were always comfortable. I loved the multiple pockets, and was able to reconfigure the items that I took as I explored and eliminate my cross-shoulder daypack. I used a water bottle holder that clipped onto my belt or belt loop. I also had my Aviator ball cap which really cooled me down when I dampened it.
Anything else you’d like to share:
Here's a secret: Aviator jeans are not just for the airplane or travel. They have become my top choice for every day wear. They are very comfortable and the security pockets are invaluable. I especially like how they have enlarged the "watch" pocket so that my large cell phone fits perfectly. I initially ordered the one pair of Medium Dark Indigos to try them out. Within a week of receiving them, I ordered two more pair in black and khaki. After retuning from my trip a week ago, I preordered two more in faded indigo and steel grey. As I said, these are not just for travel.

Hiking in the Atlas Mountains and Chefchaouen, the Blue City.
Tips and tricks for fellow travelers:
Travel first to Marrakesh, hit the Atlas Mountains, and then wind your way back to the north.
Food/drink recommendations:
As a reminder, liquor is not routinely served in restaurants.
Which Aviator products did you wear and were they helpful?
Faded Indigo Jeans. The zipper pockets were great. Never had to worry about losing wallet or passport. The Air Dry Merino Wool Travel T-Shirts are also a great way to pack less and wear more.
Anything else you’d like to share:
Marrakesh and Casablanca are extremely large and modern cities. While they certainly have their ancient and historic areas, I enjoyed a number of the smaller communities scattered in the more rural parts of the country.
Extra Tips from Aviator:
If you're planning a visit to Morocco, it's important to account for Ramadan. Many restaurants, markets and businesses may be closed during the holiday. It’s also worth noting that shops and attractions may be closed on Fridays because it’s a holy day.
Heartsill visited the Chefchaouen, nicknamed "the blue city." It's a beautiful place and absolutely worth adding to your itinerary. If you're able to spend the day in Chefchaouen, take a hike up to the Akchour Falls. Tucked in the Rif Mountains and surrounded by lush forest, it's a beautiful hike that takes about two hours roundtrip.

Extra Tips from Aviator: If you enjoy hiking, you should definitely check out Sedona. The region boasts more than 100 different trails. One of the most popular is the Cathedral Rock Trail. Though it isn't the easiest trek, the trail does offer great views of one of Sedona's most notable red rock formations. For a less strenuous journey that still promises Cathedral Rock panoramas, try the Airport Mesa Loop, an easy path located near the Sedona Airport. Other popular hiking trails include the Bell Rock Pathway, the Devil's Bridge Trail, Boynton Canyon and the Palatki Ruins, which features several ancient Native American ruins and cave paintings.

Where did you last travel?
I've been traveling non-stop for 19 years. Spain is now my base, right now I'm in Morocco and I'll be in India in less than a month.
Highlights and/or must see locations:
Dragon Blood Trees, Socorta
Iguaza Falls, Argentina.
My favorite places around the world have been Socotra Island, Seychelles, Romania, Argentina and Kyrgyzstan.
Tips and tricks for fellow travelers:
When you arrive at the airport in a new country, take a seat at a cafe for 15 minutes. Have a coffee, look around and unwind from the flight. This helps us get our bearings before we head off into town and helps us avoid making potentially costly mistakes such as getting ripped off. Then, when you're out exploring and you come upon an area that is completely full of tourists, find a random, quieter street and start walking away from the crowds. Walk 5 minutes in the opposite direction and whatever you find will most likely lead to a more rewarding, local experience.
Food/drink recommendations:
Oyster omelettes at the night markets in Taipei, tlayudas in Oaxaca, the Old Man and the Sea restaurant in Tel Aviv and Orivy Local Food eatery in Hoi An.
Shilin Night Market, the king of night markets in Taipei

I had bought a pair about a week and a half before leaving on a 3 week journey to Europe and when they arrived I realized I had ordered a size too small. Paris and Croatia
Highlights and/or must see locations:
Hard to think of a more beautiful place for a ride...
Plitvice Lakes National Park
Croatia: I landed in Zagreb and spent a day exploring this small, pleasant city which has a wonderful central market and several interesting, small museums. Next, I rode out toward the coast to visit three national parks, including the stunning Plitvice Lakes National Park- a UNESCO World Heritage Site - not to be missed! The majority of the trip involved cycling down the lovely Dalmatian coast, from Split down through three of the beautiful islands- Brac, Hvar and Korcula.
Foundation Louis Vuitton, Paris
Paris: The building of the Louis Vuitton Foundation, started in 2006, is an art museum and cultural center sponsored by the group LVMH and its subsidiaries. It is run as a legally separate, nonprofit entity as part of LVMH's promotion of art and culture. The art museum opened in October 2014.
Tips and tricks for fellow travelers:
While in Dubrovnik, take a walk on the old wall in the late afternoon to catch the views at sunset, and to avoid the crowds.
Roll your pants before packing them to avoid creasing.
Food/drink recommendations:
Croatia: The delicious seafood- centric cuisine and the local wines and olive oils were an added bonus to the spectacular scenery. I finished my tour in Dubrovnik, the “jewel of the Adriatic”.
Restaurant Les Enfants Rouges in Paris' 3rd arrondissement
Paris: Les Enfants Rouges in Paris receives amazing reviews and serves delicious market-fresh French cuisine.
Which Aviator products did you wear and were they helpful?
Summer Dark Indigo Jeans paired with the Aviator Air Dry Merino Wool Travel-T. The real solution to "packing light."
When not in my cycling shorts, my summer weight Aviator jeans and Air Dry merino t- shirts kept me comfortable and well turned out as I strolled, hiked, and hung out in cafes and restaurants in the evenings.

I was wearing the Original Medium Dark Indigos. Probably some of the most comfortable jeans I have worn. And it still felt like I was wearing sweatpants. Thanks!

Where did you last travel?
United Kingdom and Ireland
Highlights and/or must see locations:
Wild Atlantic Way and Cliffs of Moher in Ireland, Edinburgh Castle in Scotland, Thornbury Castle in England
The Cliffs of Moher is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ireland. It's also appeared in many well-known films, such as Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and The Princess Bride.
The park's highest point is Arthur's Seat, an ancient volcano, which sits 251m above sea level giving excellent view of the city; it is also the site of a large and well preserved fort. This is one of four hill forts that were built over 2000 years ago.
Tips and tricks for fellow travelers:
Packing light was the key to being able to travel to so many places on our trip in a compressed timeframe. If you are not allergic or have no issues wearing wool, I highly recommend leveraging the advantages of merino wool shirts and socks to pack even lighter.
Food/drink recommendations:
Tolbooth Tavern in Edinburgh was great, as was The Table in Southwark (London.)
The Tolbooth Tavern is a traditional Scottish pub on the Royal Mile, serving beers, ales, fine malts, and amazing Scottish food with live entertainment on Saturday nights.
Which Aviator products did you wear and were they helpful?
Medium Dark Indigo Jeans. They were perfect. Just lightweight enough to be comfortable on the warmer days, and rugged enough that there were no issues hiking up Arthur’s Seat or along the Irish coast and being comfortable. The extra zippered pockets made a huge difference as well, as I could keep euros and pounds available and separated without getting in the way of my everyday carry items.

Highlights and/or must see locations:
I have been blessed to have been to Paris at least a dozen times. This trip was about a slow walk around Paris for my wife and me. We wandered. She is in the fashion business so we went to retailers who she works with and to some hot "houses" where she could see new goods.
Tips and tricks for fellow travelers:
Personally, I would avoid the metro from between 7:30AM to 9:30AM and 4PM to 7PM. Walking is it! But there are so many Limes and Birds in Paris that you can get anywhere so easily. And Uber worked very well.

When traveling in Europe, try to pack lightly, and rent the smallest car possible :-)
Food/drink recommendations:
In Gran Sasso (by Sulmona), we stopped at Ristoro Mucciante, for "arosticini". The way it works is: You buy the raw meat on skewers inside, and then you go outside and BBQ them yourself on a grill. Great fun, in an incredible setting, and the high altitude provided a welcome relief from the heat.

I took two pairs of the Concorde Jeans. They definitely helped me to relax and enjoy the vacation, knowing that my wallet and my passport were zipped up and secure.

Fuxi Canyon Glass Bridge, Zhengzhou, Xinmi, Henan
The Fuxi Mountain Glass Skywalk towers 1,181 feet above the valley below, and attracts brave visitors (like our friend Ron) from around the world.
Tips and tricks for fellow travelers:
I took two pairs of jeans (one Dark Indigo for "dressier" and one Medium Indigo for casual/unobtrusive) plus three shirts for my month-long travels around China. Covered me for everything I needed. Temperatures went up to 38°C with very high humidity (Guangzhou) and the jeans were still comfortable for all-day wear. Loved how I could move in them.

Which Aviator products did you wear and were they helpful?
I have the Comfort Skinny Silver Grey jeans and I always wear them when I fly. Stretchy, comfortable, chic.

Travel light! I have a backpack that conforms to the smallest airline overhead, and that’s all I bring. Wash clothes a lot, and bring things that are useful for any occasion. I have stuff I can go running in, go to a museum, and go out to dinner. And try to blend in.

Tips and tricks for fellow travelers:
The market gets very crowded and pickpockets are prevalent. My Aviator jeans were perfect to help keep money close to me, but in a spot that would foil a potential pickpocket. I bought a handmade belt in the market that looks great with my Aviators! Two other highlights were playing polo and dancing the tango. If you have a spirit for cultural adventure, definitely do both!

Love that these jeans are a flattering fit AND lightweight AND have deep/zippered pockets. They worked well for me at the market and on horseback, because they are comfortable, functional and stylish. Well done, Aviator!

Where did you last travel?
Mexico City
Highlights and/or must-see locations:
The metro system is very inexpensive and there are separate cars for women/children. Buy your tickets for Frida Kahlo's house in advance and arrive early to avoid long lines. Visit Teotihuacan on a Monday when it is not crowded. Take Uber at night - safe and very inexpensive. Try lots of new foods and wear sunscreen! Even in the winter the sun is incredibly hot.
Food and drink recommendations:
Walk around the local markets and look for busy food stalls - eat whatever the locals are eating! Try a Paloma - it's tequila with a local grapefruit soda and it is so refreshing. And definitely go to Churrería El Moro for churros and chocolate - make sure to dunk them.
Which Aviator products did you wear and were they helpful?
I packed both my Aviator Dark Indigo Performance Jeans and my Aviator Black Comfort Jeans. They were perfect for walking all over the city without having to worry about my belongings. My large phone fit completely in one front pockets and I kept small bills safely in the other. A credit card and large bills were secure in the back, hidden-zipper pocket. I could roam crowded markets and ride the cramped metro without worry. The jeans looked nice yet felt like I was wearing yoga pants. I wore them with t-shirts during the day and with a sweater and scarf at night. Plus, the Black Comfort Jeans were perfect for the plane ride and the Dark Indigo Performance Jeans pack down much smaller and lighter than regular jeans.

I have also worn my Aviator jeans to Lisbon and southern Spain and will be taking them to Colombia this December. They make packing for travel so much easier, plus I wear them all the time at home as well. The deep front pockets are amazing and they wash well and don't lose their shape. I love Aviator!

Volunteering at Animal Aid Unlimited in Udaipur
Tips and tricks for fellow travelers:
I tied my wallet to a front belt-loop when I put it in my front pocket. That way, I was able to pull it out to use, but it was safely attached to my clothing. Small bills fit into the zipped pocket in the back, and my cellphone fit inside the other front pocket. Everything was well protected and I didn't need to carry a purse or a daypack. I was also able to sleep in the jeans when it was cold and without heat.
Food/drink recommendations:
Poha for breakfast!
